WHAT ARE 'VALUES' ANYWAYS?

"Values" is simply a description of what our hearts treasure. Values always flow from what you believe; if you believe that this life is all there is, then you will place the highest value on the here and now and on material possessions. If you believe that this life is only a blip on the radar of eternity, however, you will have a different set of values.

"Store up for yourselves treasure in heaven." ~Matthew 6:20

Our Treasure

Flowing from The Daily Verse Online Statement of Faith and Mission, the following are the values that guide and direct all that the DVO does:

CHRIST SUPREME AND SATISFYING- For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him." ~Colossians 1:16
Jesus Christ is the absolute reality in the universe, the "radiance of God's glory," and the One to whom every knee will bow. This truth must be proclaimed with joyful boldness. We treasure the truth that God's glory is what must be seen, pursued, and treasured above anything else in the universe. As John Piper said, "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him."

THE CENTRALITY OF THE GOSPEL- "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures." ~1 Corinthians 15:3
The Gospel is not something that one is saved with and then puts on a shelf; it is essential for the first step of the Christian walk, and every step after that. It is the absolute center of every aspect of the Christian life. All theology, rightly understood, is an unpacking of the Gospel. Worship is a celebration of the Gospel, and will be forever. Even in heaven we will be singing, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!"

THE BEAUTIFUL BRIDE OF CHRIST- "For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ when He comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you are our glory and joy." ~1 Thessalonians 2:19
As ones called to pursue the fullness of joy in Christ, it is the joyful duty of believers to delight in the body of Christ. Though marred with indwelling sin and unfaithful members, we recognize and rejoice in the work of the Holy Spirit in purifying and conforming the Bride of Christ, the Church, to the image of her Bridegroom. "All men will know you are my disciples if you love one another."
